A block of rooms has been reserved at the Hotel Melia in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic for the Caribbean Animal Welfare Conference at a reduced rate of US$85 plus tax for a single occupancy deluxe room or US$95 plus tax for a double occupancy deluxe room. (Taxes are 26 percent of the room charge.) Breakfast is included with room reservations. All conference attendees are encouraged to book their hotel rooms for a minimum of four nights, arriving no later than the evening of Monday, April 21 and departing no earlier than Friday, April 25. Optional post-conference activities will take place on Friday, April 25, so attendees may wish to stay an additional night or two. Please review the conference schedule for further information. Hotel reservations must be made directly with the Hotel Melia using the reservation form on this Web page. Rooms must be booked by March 15, 2008, but all are encouraged to reserve rooms as soon as possible since the number of rooms are limited. To reserve a room, open the hotel reservation form by clicking on the link above. Save the form to your computer, complete the form, and save your changes. Then follow the instructions on the form for faxing or E-mailing your completed reservation request to the Hotel Melia.
When reserving flights for the conference, be sure to use Las Americas International Airport (SDQ), Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Please note that the Dominican Republic is a large island, and transportation costs from other airports will be both expensive and time consuming.
Ground transportation from the Las Americas International Airport to the Hotel Melia is Santo Domingo is about US$40 each way. Currencies used in the Dominican Republic are the U.S. dollar and the Dominican peso. As of November 26, 2007, one U.S. dollar was worth 33 Dominican pesos. Taxi drivers usually accept either currency, but be sure to ask before leaving the airport. Visitors to the Dominican Republic will need to purchase a US$10 tourist card upon arrival in the country. Visitors to the Dominican Republic do not need to speak Spanish, but it is useful to know a few words and phrases.
